Welcome! My name is Hennessy, and I am a DONA-trained birth doula living in Tucson, Arizona. My driving philosophy is YOUR BIRTH MATTERS!

My goal as a doula is to provide educational, emotional, and physical support before, during, and immediately after labor so that you feel prepared and empowered during this transformative experience.

What is a Doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a mother before, during, and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible.

The word doula is derived from the Greek word doĂºla, which means woman-servant. Unlike midwives, nurses, or other care-practitioners who might be in and out during a birth, a doula’s role is to provide constant support to a woman and her family.

A doula does not make any medical decisions, but does provide birthing families evidence-based information and education before and during birth, enabling women and families to be their own advocates.

Benefits of a Doula

Research has shown that the presence of a trained doula contributes to:

  • Lower cesarean rates

  • Decreased epidural use

  • Decrease in length of labor

  • Increased rates of breastfeeding

  • Increased well-being and satisfaction with birth

  • Reduction in anxiety and stress

I was anxious about having my first baby--even with all my research and preparation I had no idea what birth would actually be like nor how I would push through the pain. Hennessy comforted and empowered me, sharing just the right amount of wisdom and tools without overwhelming me or my partner. She guided me towards the birth I imagined, with just the right amount of modesty, laughter, and lower back pressure along the way. I recommend her to anyone I meet who's expecting!

As first time parents, (or second time parents, or third time parents) you really need as much support as you can get during such an exciting, intense, and uncertain moment, but through all the unknowns we knew Hennessy was there for us.

Through several consultations, meetings, texts, and planning sessions she was able to give us the confidence to believe we knew what we were doing. Even though we felt prepared, in the moment it was important to have someone like Hennessy in our corner with her calm, reassuring presence and words. I question how anybody could do this without a doula!
